Dog Grooming
Long haired border collies require grooming. Cider and Whisky are clipped, groomed and have a blow out (to remove the loose undercoat) about 4 times a year. Our favourite Puppy Salon is Maggies Dog Cafe, at Moonee Beach, NSW. The team are awarding winning and the cafe environment is great social training for pups.
Puppy Training
Training your puppy will be the best gift you can give your dog! We encourage new puppy owners to start training the day you get your puppy. Why not watch some Cesar Millan on Youtube? Learn to understand "dog language" it is not the same as human language. The earlier you start, the easier it will be. Please don't put off training your pup until they are older, by then you have both learnt bad habits that are hard to break.

Can you run 10km in the morning, play catch, go for a swim and do it all again in a few hours? A border collie can! Border collies are a HIGH energy dog, they require a lot of exercise and engagement from their owner, even as a puppy. If you work full time and live in an apartment, a border collie is NOT the dog for you!
This breed was selected for their intelligence and ability to herd sheep for hours. It would be cruel to bring this type of dog into a living environment where the owner is absent most of the time at work and the house has a small backyard.
Dogs in general don't make good surprise gifts! Be honest with yourself and talk in depth with your family about the reality of owning a border collie. It is like adopting a child and there is no return policy. But if you have done your research and know that it is the right breed for you, it will be the best decision you have ever made!
