What should my puppy eat?
Your dog’s diet is an investment in their long term health.
Gold Border Collies drank milk only from mumma Cider for the first 4 weeks. We then introduced puppy Vetalogica kibble ( https://www.vetalogica.com.au/ ) at 4 weeks, to get them used to a doggy diet.
Then at 6 weeks we introduced Big Dog https://www.bigdogpetfoods.com/ raw diet from Maggies Pet Co https://maggiespetco.com.au/ , mixed with kibble to allow their tummies to adjust.
By 8 weeks they have had sardines (in spring water), free ranges eggs, raw beef and lamb by Big Dog and the Vetalogica kibble for puppies.
We also added Big Dog probiotics to their diet, daily.
We encourage you to buy the best for your Border Collies that you can afford. We are all what we eat and just because a product at the supermarket says its premium, it’s probably not so we suggest do your research and find what works best.
Now lets talk POOP. One way we determined what works best is keeping an eye on puppy poo. Our pups never had running or overly dry poops. They should be fully formed torpedo's. which shows they have happy tummies with their diet. If you notice a big change take a picture and show your vet!
Puppies can continue to get 3 meals a day until 4-6 month old, as long as you don’t notice too much weight gain and be mindful of too many snacks with training time. Then slowly drop to 2 meals a day and by 2 years old they will probably only need 1 good sized dinner like Whisky, Cosmo and Cider.
