Why your Border Collie needs exercise

Did you know your Border Collie gets a hit of endorphins that make them happy when they exercise? Just like we do! Exercise improves dog’s metal and physical wellbeing. And with enough exercise you will start seeing unwanted behaviours such as barking, digging, chewing (although this is a normal puppy behaviour), aggression and escaping. So to avoid these issues you need to set your dog up for SUCCESS and avoid anxiety, sadness and depression for your dog. Exercise is also a great time to bond with your pooch and learn some tricks like sit, stay and lead training along the way. You will also be burning off calories and keeping their joints limber and healthy. Border Collies require more exercise than some other breeds like a Chihuahua. Aim for 30 minutes to 2 hours of exercise EVERYDAY, not just on the weekend! I like to take the dogs for faster walk and some running on an empty belly and a gentler slower walk if they have already eaten, so they don’t get sick tummies. Your dog walk checklist before you leave the house.

1. Dog collar is well secured and tight but you can still fit two fingers between the collar and the neck

2. Dog lead is waterproof (we love Gummi leads and collars they are so practical for wet and dry Border Collie life!) and has a working clip. 3. Poop bags at the ready for when nature calls

4. Doggo towel (for when they can’t resist that muddy puddle)

5. Seat cover. If you are driving somewhere invest in one of these (https://www.petbarn.com.au/wander-hammock-charcoal) we sure were grateful when a few puppies vomited on the way to the vet! 6. Your tick protection is up to date! Usually during the walks dogs will pick up ticks while exploring

7. Water ( https://maggiespetco.com.au/products/all-fur-you-pet-water-bottle-green?_pos=2&_sid=bcc214ec5&_ss=r&variant=43189148942510) Enjoy your exercise time with your Border Collies, also have your phone ready, it’s usually when they do their funniest moments! What else would you add to the checklist? Comment below and let us know! Sam and the Gold Collies family
